Back on the Freelancing Wagon

Completed/completing: #30: Start freelancing

A 23-year-old me styling a back-to-school fashion shoot — pretty much the only picture I have of me in action.

My first real job out of college was unbelievable. I styled fashion shoots, reviewed beauty products, and covered award show celeb style. When I got laid off, I accepted a position with National Geographic. Instead of shoes and purses, I produced content about wild animals and going green. I loved the change, but I always missed writing about those vain trifles.

I told myself a few years ago that I should start freelancing, but never did. Until this year, it hadn’t made its way onto my yearly bucket list. That finally lit the fire.

My colleague, Anne, who I knew was good people when she asked me if my hair was ombre-d (a word most people hadn’t heard of a year-and-a-half ago and before it was all over Pinterest), is also Editor-in-Chief of beautyXpose, a fashion and beauty blog. I mean, we talked about fashion, gel nail polish, and dying hair extensions… but I didn’t really make the connection about writing for her blog until a few months ago. So, I asked if I could contribute and she said, “Yes!” We are now blog engaged.

My first review was on Firmoo eye glasses. Click here to read it. Pulitzer worthy… mainly because of the ‘Chipmunks’ reference.

To all three of our blog readers, Fimroo has launched a program offering free eyewear for first-time Firmoo buyers. If you’re in the market for a new pair and want to take advantage of this deal – and don’t want to read my review — please check out http://www.firmoo.com/free-glasses.html.
